Quick Reads
We are encouraging adults, including our own staff, to pick up a Quick Read and get into reading.

Adult Learners' Week 2010: 15-21 May

Quick Reads

Quick Reads are bite-sized books written by celebrities and bestselling authors.  They are aimed at any adult who wants a short, fast paced read, adults who have lost the reading habit and adults who want to brush up their reading skills.

Ten new books will be launched on 4 March 2010 - which is World Book Day.

Authors include Rolf Harris, money guru Alvin Hall and bestselling author Cathy Kelly. Books cover money advice, lottery winners' stories, a new Doctor Who adventure, a thriller, a historical tale and much more.  Find out more on the Quick Reads website.

Quick Reads - campaign visualBooks cost only £1.99 and will be available from supermarkets, bookshops and online retailers.

New for 2010 - Quick Reads can also be downloaded as e-books to your computer or phone.  They will also cost £1.99 and will be available from a range of online stores.

In the latest survey of over 30, 000 people who had used Quick Reads:

  • 100% said Quick Reads had made a positive impact on their lives
  • 82% said they were more likely to read another book after reading a Quick Read
  • 88% were more confident after learning to read with Quick Reads
  • 41% felt their job prospects had improved

EGSA recognises the importance to adults of developing or brushing up reading skills:

"We work with many adults who have experienced difficulities and challenges with their reading, writing and maths skills.  We can provide support and guidance to adults interested in brushing up these skills and help put them in touch with classes in their area.  Finding the right book can help develop an enjoyment of reading and boost skills at the same time."  (Eileen Kelly, Director, EGSA)
