How will adult learners cope in the digital age? Are they digital natives or digital immigrants?
|

In today’s digital age the nature of information and its delivery are becoming more complex. Our ability to absorb the possibilities offered by the convergence of communications technologies and the skills required to access and make full use of them require a whole new form of literacy.
Media literacy is an essential communication skill that is becoming increasingly important in helping us to understand, evaluate and deal with information in a wide range of contexts.
EGSA believes that media literacy will be as important as traditional literacy, language and numeracy learning are now. This has obvious implications for adults seeking learning and work opportunities.
EGSA recently held seminars in Belfast and Dungannon aimed at demonstrating the importance of media literacy and of the need to develop and promote it among adults. These provided a valuable opportunity to increase awareness and obtain the thoughts of the attendees on the subject.
EGSA has setup a blog to record the output of these seminars and to continue its support of media literacy in Northern Ireland.
